bond set for Gonzalez — a man with zero criminal history
A Woman on a Mission.
Lauren Maes, an East Grand Rapids resident, saw a Facebook post about Gonzalez — a Venezuelan father detained by ICE while his wife was 8 months pregnant. He had no criminal record. His bond was $50,000.
Lauren paid it herself. He was released on February 4, 2026 and reunited with his family at Ford International Airport — meeting his newborn daughter for the first time.
"I just decided in that moment I was going to pay it. His family needed him, and it was just the right thing to do."
— Lauren Maes, Founder
